One big concern many property owners have during this time of year is how rain will affect the pouring of concrete. It is no secret that concrete pours are generally rescheduled for a day without rain, as concrete does typically require a period of 24 to 48 hours to cure in order to reach its maximum strength. Though weather tracking is fairly accurate, the rainy season can sometimes bring unpredicted showers.
Despite this possibility, there are precautions which can be taken in order to prevent damage from occurring to poured concrete. For example, a wood and plastic sheeting can be built around the concrete in order to prevent any rain from falling on it. If some time has already passed since the curing process has begun, you may not need to do anything aside from giving it time to dry just the same way you would normally (since concrete is already mixed with water).
On commercial sites where there is a foreseeable amount of rain which can occur and accumulate, permeable concrete can be poured. Permeable concrete is a type of mixture which allows for rainwater to pass through the surface. It allows for a reduction in the amount of runoff water and reduces the amount of stormwater management that is required on the property.
